I'm going to be really popular after this, but oh well... The hypocritical manner of law making comes about by a simple fact. Those in power make rules that suit what THEY want. Since the majority of this country is Christian do-good-ers, they want laws that reflect their beliefs. It's positively sinful to have multiple "relations" with women, hence the no polygamy. However, they think it's A-OK to just say "let go and let God", hence the let your kid die of Leukemia because God wanted to call little Johnny on home to Heaven. But really, when it comes down to it, does it really matter? As a person that is reasonably fond of children, I don't enjoy seeing kids hurt or dying, etc. But, you can't be out crusading for everybody all the time. If Suzie JW wants her kid to die of a compound fracture of the femur, is it up to me as a reasonable person to try to put a stop to it? Ultimately it's her decision, and really, it should be. Do we really want the government dictating how we take care of our offspring? (which they kinda do already.) Besides (here comes the popularity maker) it's one less Christian Crusader to try to convert me.
