Another of 2010’s prospects to come off the board early is none other than Carondelet’s sharp-shooter Ricki Radanovich. We recently caught up with the junior guard of Northern CA’s No. 4 ranked team. Ricki Radanovich, a junior at Carondolet High in Concord has committed to signing a national letter of intent with the Santa Clara Broncos in November 2009.

Carondelet has had a great season thus far and doesn’t want it to end anytime soon. Already this season, the Cougars have had key wins over rival Mitty twice, Monte Vista, and Berkeley. The Cougars are riding a 23-3 record this season with a NCS playoff date against Livermore Friday night.

The 5-foot-10 Radanovich is known as a shooter deluxe and that talent was remembered by current Santa Clara Assistant Coach Leigh Gregory, who previously assisted at Carondolet and also served as head coach of the East Bay Xplosion, a club team based in Walnut Creek. Since part of the job for any assistant coach is finding talent, Gregory recommended Radanovich to Jennifer Mountain, the newish Santa Clara head coach and Mountain obviously liked what she saw.

While she agrees long-range shooting is her strength, Radanovich strives to improve other aspects of her game. "I am really working on my mid-range game so I can be an all around scorer and on my core strength so my defense is better," she offered.

What factors played a role in Radanovich’s decision? "It was close to home, a small private school and has great academics," Radanovich said.

Once an offer was extended, Radanovich hit the road. "I took unofficial trips to my other schools of interest to check them out," she said.

Once that task was completed, it was a matter of talking with family and ultimately it was Santa Clara on top.

Radanovich sports a 4.0 grade point average and is looking to major in business at Santa Clara.

"It feels weird that I have another whole year and a half of high school to go even though my college is already set," she said.

Besides family and friends, she wanted to express her appreciation t
