We want Williams

Williams’ senior play is drawing scholarship offers

The high school basketball season has concluded for most teams and players and that means but one thing in the world of prep hoops: recruiting for juniors and seniors gets serious. Sierra High’s Christian Williams is exhibit A.

Actually, make that Valley Oak League Most Valuable Player and All-Area Player of the Year Christian Williams. The 6-foot-1 Sierra High senior became the first baller at his school to ever receive such an honor.

But it was an easy call.

"He had an outstanding year despite being double and triple-teamed at times," said Sierra coach Scott Thomason.

Williams averaged 26.9 points per game in league play, shooting 44% from three-point range (32-97), 50% further in and 83% from the foul line.

"He was easily our best player, the best in the league and fun to watch," Thomason added.

Williams’ 666 points this year garnered him the record for the most points in a season at Sierra and his 1,615 career points is also a school record.

Besides averaging the nearly 30 points per contest, Williams also passed for six assists each time out while nabbing seven rebounds a game.

Such senior production, the result of hours of hard work, has captured the attention of a number of schools.

According to Williams, "Sacramento State and Jackson State have offered me and Pacific is checking on an NCAA Clearinghouse matter but I’m leaning towards Jackson State because I kind of like the thought of being a home town kid." He still has relatives in Jackson, Mississippi.

Williams added, "They are talking about me as a point because of my feel for the game and how I make the people around me better."

If heading south indeed becomes the choice, then Thomas Wolfe was wrong -- you can go home again.
