Are you ready to Rumble?
Okay, the Memorial Day weekend is fast approaching. Wallets are thin and gas tanks low so close-by entertainment is currently the hot ticket. That brings us to the eighth Annual Patrick Dennehy Memorial Rumble in the Bay basketball tournament taking place May 23 - 25.
Dominique Lee, St. Mary’s/Hoosiers
What is staying the same is that the Rumble In The Bay is the largest high-school level tournament during the school year in California. But the venues are a bit different this go-around. Cupertino High, Independence High, Woodside High, Wilcox High (only on Sunday) plus Cañada College will be hosting some of the best boys basketball teams in the west (no Santa Clara University this time due to unavailability).
Action Saturday and Sunday will run from 9 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. while Monday will see games from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
As for the teams that will be battling each other, the list includes:
- Bay Area Hoosiers
- Bay Area Wildcats
- BTI (out of southern California)
- Double Pump
- Drew Gooden Soldiers
- Greenline (De LaSalle High)
- High Intensity
- L.A. Dream Team (two-time defending champions)
- Lakeshow/MVP
- Las Vegas Dynasty
- Nor Cal Pharoahs (Sacramento)
- Organized Chaos (Fresno)
- Pioneer Technologies (Seattle)
- Play Hard, Play Smart (Sacramento)
- San Francisco Rebels
- Team Superstar (a new team out of the Fresno area)
- Team 94 (Phil Handy’s squad)
So expect to see Dominique Lee, Desmond Simmons, Jabari Brown, Kiwi Gardner, Khion Sankey, TJ Taylor, Dominique Taplin, Nick Johnson (out of Arizona, the nephew of the late Dennis Johnson) and many others during the event. Simmons just committed to Washington while Taplin and Taylor are Santa Clara-bound. Lee, Brown and Johnson have multiple big time college offers.
