Jordan Barton Decides
In a mid-September Nor Cal Preps interview, MVP/Lakeshow and Bishop O’Dowd frontcourter Jordan Barton mentioned mutual interest between himself and both Cal Poly and Chico State. Just a month later, Barton has made his choice.
Barton is moving from a Dragon to a Wildcat
For some it’s the number of bright lights and high profile media visibility. For others, it’s playing time. Fit is offered as the basis by many commits. For Jordan Barton, it was about family -- the Chico State familia in particular. It’s the one head coach Greg Clink and assistant coach Gus Argenal and the rest of the Wildcat coaching staff are building and bonding together.
Barton tripped north on an official visit to the Chico State campus and the aspect that won him over was that "I immediately felt like part of the family. Every person on the team introduced themselves to me and my mother. It was just a good atmosphere."
Junior point Zach Graves was his official player host -- the ballhandler paired with the rebounder.
Barton is being looked at as a power forward on the next level.
With Cal State East Bay, San Francisco State, Sonoma State, Notre Dame du Namur and Humboldt State among the various Chico opponents, the likelihood that Barton’s family and friends can catch him in action beginning a year from now is a strong one.
It’s also important to consider how the Wildcat program has been transformed courtesy of some of the local and regional talents Clink and Company have brought in since taking over in April 2008:
- Jason Conrad, Gilroy High
- Rashad Parker, Castro Valley High
- Brian Seals, Valley High
- Cam Fenley, Monte Vista High
- Zach Graves, Kennedy (Sacramento) High
- Powell Lee, Fremont (Oakland) High
- Damario Sims, McClymonds High
- Amir Carraway, Franklin High
Now add Barton.
"I want to thank my parents, Coach Fuca (of MVP/Lakeshow) and Coach Willie for helping me achieve this," Barton said.
