A not so recent article in a reader presented an extremely interesting article on the idea that the Dark Knight and Boy Wonder are lovers, or at least that fantasy is perpetuated by frequently recurring instances in the old comic (back in the '50s and '60s) and the Adam West television show.
This of course caused a lot of arguments causing DC to do off with Dick Grayson (sp?) for a little while. But in recent issues (the past 15 years) we've had not only the rebirth of Dick, but we've also had new Robins taking his place, such as Jason Todd (killed off by fans) and Tim (Drake?). And while we've also had a female Robin and occasional 'flirts' for old Batsy and Bird Boy such as Batwoman, Vicki Vale, Selena Kyle, and Batgirl (Batwoman's neice in the original comic), we seem to return to the same scenario time and time again with the older, more mature Bruce Wayne taking on a youthful male (even in the series Batman Beyond which has yet to contribute a Robin character to the show, we still have a youthful Terry MacGuinnes (sp?) taken on as an apprentice by the now elderly Wayne).
It was recently asked if the sport of baseball was ready for an openly gay player, so now I ask--is the world ready for Batman to come out of the closet?
