I don't know, isn't it sort of problematic that we can't except that two men can live together and be friendly without being gay? In Batman's specific case, considering how mentally fucked up he is, it seems only natural that he would seek out orphaned boys and become a surrogate father. He's acting out his Oedipal issues over his own father's death. Besides, there is real heat between Batman and some of the ladies, Catwoman and Talia come to mind. Now as much as I love the old Batman series, I don't really consider it part of the official canon of Batman literature. Additionally, a lot of the 50s and 60s campy Batman stuff I just throw out the window in large quantities, I mean Mogo the Bat-Ape? No thank you.
