In a sense it doesn't matter because we will all die, and humanity itself will perish. However, that's looking at life from the outside. Philosophy, morality, beliefs: these things only have meaning within the context of life (in fact meaning itself is within that context). Certainly Philosophy has no meaning once we're all dead. Similarly, glasses would be meaningless to a blind person. Anything taken out of context seems pointless. But if we put these ideas in the context of life (and we accept the context of life as valid because we are within it), then they take on a very real (if mortal) meaning.
This said, Ayn Rand might say that a philosophy is important because we filter information and make choices based upon it. Since choices affect our lives, and we accept that our lives are important because we are living, then it should be clear that philosophy matters.
